Most perforated metals are manufactured using wide specialized stamping presses. The tooling used in these presses usually contains 1 to 4 rows of punches, depending on hole size and selected pattern, which run the width of the material being perforated. Coils or sheets of metal are fed through the press, and the tooling cycles down, punching out the evenly spaced holes. Each stroke can create hundreds of holes, with presses running from 50 to 400 strokes per minute, depending on the thickness of the material. For more complex patterns, a CNC turret press is often used. Although these presses are less efficient, they can offer a more precise, detailed output.
